Description

... Abbe (& composer) F. J. Aumann AND one Michael Haydn got stuck in St. Florian's Stiftskeller - inspecting the local VINTAGE! :iconwineplz::iconflowersplz:

:rose: Orig. 1771 pic: www.fiorimusicali-biberwettbew… TWICE in his life Michael was given an AMAZING opportunity to RISE on the social

and musical ladder elsewhere - he declined and remained a humble yet very busy Konzertmeister (etc.) in Salzburg. ... The wine had to be SUPERB!!!

:music: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYEc-H… & www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf-X1O… :music: Can't help it, I love his music - and general BRAIN area - soooo much!!!! Bless him - and the Burgundy! =P

:bulletred: So LEOPOLD MOZART was quite right in his critique of Michael Haydn's little *drinking problem* (with which he (probably) counter-battled depression of sorts and just

general jolly grumpiness of character) - www.operadisc.com/vis_tutto_ba… - and Wolfgang, to annoy his Father, wrote:  ''In this respect ~ he's a little like me!''

... Do we have LEOPOLD MOZART'S party picture???!!!!

... :iconletter-nplz::iconletter-oplz:.
~ Leopold Mozart DID NOT party.:party:LOL=P

Something to consider: Michael was a hard working man (11 duties, on and off). ... Which strikes a severe blow to Leopold's famous thesis - and overly repeated a fact:

''Haydn will drink himself into a dropsy in a few years or, at any rate, he'll get lazier and lazier the older he becomes as even now he's too lazy to do anything.'' Briefe, 379-380.

Kinda clashes with later description ... '' of Michael was given by one of the monks of St. Peter, Gabriel Hutter: *His character was quiet, discreet modesty.

Drink and gambling were far removed from him, moderation in thinking, speaking, even in judging other musical works, were what made him beloved and valued.* ''

As seen from the brief example of Fischietti, Colloredo did not take kindly to laziness (= non writing church music) - and Wolfgang Mozart was, amongst others, FIRED for precisely this reason.

In fact, it was Colloredo who went on and, rather unfairly, fired BOTH, Leopold AND Wolfgang when they asked for leave of absence to go on a tour (and then took them back again, the evil man).

Michael was a calm, taciturn and compliant composer, home in tradition as well as the new wave - he was offered to take over Wolfgang's position as organist  (clever move to further aggravate ambitious Leo)

- and his contract clause states that he has to show diligence ... If Michael was such a world class lazy arse boozer - why then was he entrusted with all these duties?!

How ever did he manage to write over 800 works? In at least 26 genres (2 more than W. Mozart.)

As we know, he eventually pulled his shit together ~ and the Empress herself sang his masses - under his personal direction. ... How TOP OF THE WORLD can one get?!

... On the other hand: how deep in the muck can one be? After Colloredo, who pretty much poked fun out of him and did not take his contributions (too) seriously, Michael's last employer

was Duke of Tuscany - who had absolutely no ear for Michael's music - he not only ignored his logical promotion to Kapellmeistership - but also took away his Konzertmeister title

(Michael was left with nothing but ''cathedral organist'' at the time of his death (= pretty much suffered an indignity and shame as well as a broken heart, fell ill and died) - and that's a person

who actually WAS a Kapellmeister in his early 20's (!!!!!!!) - and whose fame reached well beyond state borders - and who had a Holy Roman Empress and Emperor under his compositional hat.)

Keep in mind that while courts offered him, a historically depicted Drunkard and a Waste Of Encyclopaedic Space, various lucrative positions - nobody offered the bitter Mozarts anything much, especially

since Leopold himself was in 1782 deeply in the game and has sent Colloredo his petition to succeed somewhat recently expired Kapellmeister Lolli. Some suggest that through smearing Michael's reputation

regarding  (which was common knowledge anyhow) he cleverly made sure Michael Haydn was left dry too (especially since Michael too was a violin virtuoso (thus Leo's competitor)

and after death of Leopold, took over his teaching posts.) Colloredo wrote to Italian towns - and Vienna - and Prague - and Königgrätz - in search for a ''decent organist and keyboard player'' -

and before you, like Leopold Mozart did, laugh at Luigi GATTI :fuzzydemon:, whom Colloredo asked TWICE to join Salzburg, I suggest you listen to his opus:

:rose: www.youtube.com/results?search…; (especially concertone) & www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTU3gD…

a second tenor, organist, vicemaestro of St. Barbara Chapel and Primo Maestro di Capella of Colonia Filarmonica (annexed to Royal Academy of Mantua) - this was a man of serious credentials

and experience
which have earned him fame across Europe. He completely surpassed both, Leopold and Wolfgang (who, as per usual, dismissed Gatti merely as ''an ass'', 12. October 1782.)

There may or may not be another conflict of interests present: Colloredo was confirmed Illuminati (one of 2000 registered), the Mozarts were Masons and Michael Haydn was Jesuit-educated and close to Augustinians.

On the up side: Leopold appreciated Michael-the-Musician and Wolfgang did A LOT to promote Michael's music at van Swieten's - that is, if he did not represent it as his own:

''Mozart made copies of more works by Michael Haydn than of any other composer.'' --> Quote speaks volumes. All in all, a pretty good trade off for all the ideas and indirect teachings

Wolfgang received from Michael. ... Yes, theme for the slow movement of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik is Michael's, so is the theme for Ein Mädchen, etc. ... Plus Wolf trusts him with his sister:

Marianne Mozart is (or at least was for a period) buried together with Michael. =P
